Photographer of the Month – William Simone of Simone Associates

William Simone has 23 years of professional photography experience. In 1981 he opened Simone Associates, one of the premier advertising illustration studios in the Mid-Atlantic Region. They focus on still life, food, people and architecture. Their studio is housed in an old warehouse, with three shooting spaces covering more than 6000 sq ft. Simone Associates has three photographers shooting full time. A little over three years ago, they went totally digital. “We no longer have darkrooms, and have literally not touched a piece of film in three years… and love it!”

“This brings me in a roundabout way to Piezography and Jon Cone. You see I have always personally enjoyed B&W photography even though my daily work was more often than not in color. I did fine B&W printing on the best fiber based papers, selenium toned, etc. One day another photographer friend of mine sent me a photograph of hers that was printed on an Epson 1200 using Jon’s Piezotone process, and within a month I had an Epson 1280 set up with Carbon Sepia inks and was learning the new “way”, and oh boy was I loving it! The unbelievable control I now had over an image in Photoshop combined with the quality and tonal range of Jon’s process made for prints that in my opinion were markedly better than anything I had ever done in a darkroom”

William has taught at Harrisburg Area Community College and Lebanon Valley College, as well as many seminars and presentations. He shows regularly at local venues such as colleges, coffee houses and galleries.
