Photographer of the Month: Tyler Boley
Tyler Boley became active in fine art photography in the eighties, studying with Ruth Bernhard, Marsha Burns, Micheal Burns, Lucien Clergue, Linda Conner, Judy Dater, Frank Gohlke, Phillip Hyde, Mark Klett, Tom Millea, Richard Misrach, Ann Noggle, John Sexton, Jerry Uelsmann, and Brett Weston.
"I began working with QuadTone printing on an Epson 3000 in 1998 with the only inksets available at that time. Needless to say, a great deal of work was required to get acceptable results in those days, so becoming a major "tweaker" was part of the evolution. When the original Piezography products became available, providing a step up in quality, I switched to them. Later, when PiezoTone inks were developed, things really fell into place. The hue sets available are all beautiful, and I even do some custom mixes with them. The custom mixing combined with the flexibility offered by StudioPrint brings things to a very exciting place within the last few years. All of this, and the improved longevity of the inks, is so impressive to me that I decided to print for others as well as myself. It’s become a totally viable process. Beyond that, for me, the prints are simply stunning, and the reason I jumped in so early was that my imagery seemed particularly suited to it, and finally started coming alive on paper."
Tyler currently has his own commercial photography business which regularly produces national award winning work, appearing frequently in the Mead Show and Black Book AR100.
In the fall of 2003, with partner Anil Kapahi, Custom Digital LLC was opened to provide custom fine art black and white carbon pigment ink printing services.

A major part of Tyler’s work consists of ongoing photography of the Pacific Northwest landscape. The above image entitled "Blue Lake, WA 2" is part of that work. copyright©2005 Tyler Boley. All Rights Reserved.
