How to tell if you have an irregularly filled cartridge.

The 21 step strip printing image is included on your installation CD so that you can print it to determine the integrity of your printing system. The chart illustrates a gray ramp from 0 - 100%. It should be smooth and uninterrupted when printing through an ICQ profile for the correct media.

If you have accidentally filled a CIS bottle with the wrong dilution of ink or have received a mislabeled bottle or cartridge - eventually the ink will travel to the nozzle and printing irregularities will occur that may not be noticeable over a gradual period of time.

Look at the charts below. The top image is an irregular pattern caused by a light solution loaded in the cyan position. The bottom image is a correctly printing test strip.

If you have just started up your system in an irregular way, you may not know that PiezographyÙBW separates tone in even steps of 256 gradations of gray. We want to make certain that you are getting the best of what it offers. We are dedicated to preserving the highest standards possible - and we want to insure that you are producing the highest standard that PiezographyÙBW produces. If you suspect that you have an irregular pattern - you can verify by printing a nozzle check and sending your printed strip to: Attn: Bill Bergh, Cone Editions Press, Ltd., PO Box 51, East Topsham, VT 05076

The strip on the top is printing irregularly - all of the nozzles are firing, but the cyan position density which should be printing dark is of a weaker dilution. The result is the absence of 3/4 tone density. A nozzle check will reveal that all the nozzles are firing. However, the 21-step strip reveals that there are not 4 densities of ink, but rather three densities with one being duplicated in two positions.

We want to make certain that Piezography®BW users are getting the most benefit from their system which should deliver a 21-step as illustrated on the bottom image. Please take the time to print the 21 step.psd image file that is located on your installation CD and compare to this example. If you can not locate the 21-step file - download here. Please contact us if you have any irregularities.
