Clogged vent hole with Piezography Neutral K7 2200 cartridges

Please use this bulletin if you are experiencing any clogging issues with the Piezography Neutral K7 cartridges.

There are two issues which we are aware of at this time.

1) First of all, our experienced users can not believe how light the first two dilutions are! They have been expecting darker tones in the lightest nozzle check patterns. The nozzle check pattern below is an actual "good" pattern:

Notice that in the above nozzle check pattern the 4th row is the the lightest shade, and the 6th pattern is the next to lightest. They will never print darker than this. So this is a correct pattern!

2) These new inks are designed to be very clog-free. So when you first install a cartridge and you find that you have gaps missing in the position of the cartridge which two to three cleanings will not resolve, we would like you to attempt the following. The reason is that sometimes when the vent tab release film is pulled, some of the film remains covering the vent hole which needs to be opened by pricking with a needle or a pin. We are going to have our supplier weld this film to the cartridge with less force in the future.

You can also look at the realease tab and see right away if the film is still adhered to the vent hole by examining the pull tab. Look at the photo just below this:

Here is the procedure for poking holes in the vent hole on which the film is still adhered:

1) When you install a cartridge for the first time it is necessary to remove the vent tab release film.

2) When you pull the tab sometimes a bit of the tab is left behind and it clogs the vent hole. This prevents ink from printing.

3) The cartridges we use are of a two piece design which is easily disassembled. Notice how the cart is held in the palm of the hand so that the fingers and the palm hold the outside of the case.

4) By holding the outside of the case, the insert can be removed by prying from the bottom with the thumb.

5) Then the insert which holds the ink bladder is simply pulled away from the holder.

6) This part is called the diaper. Its sole purpose in life is to catch the single drip of ink that is ejected when the vent tab release film is pulled. If there is no dot of ink - you may have film still clinging to the vent hole! The diaper may be discarded.

8) Now use a needle or a pin to poke through the film residue that was left behind. You are only opening a hole which is plugged. You do not need to push the needle down into the cartridge. The plugged area is nearly even with the surface of the plastic. You probably will not hurt anything by poking too deep. But do not poke any deeper than is necessary.

Be careful not to inadvertently dislodge the black rubber plug which is depicted above to the right of the vent hole.

9) Time to reassemble the bladder into the holder.

10) Place the top in first so that you can position the vent hole against the diaper's tab.

11) Make sure the top of the bladder is against the inside edge of the holder.

12) Then simply press the bladder back down into the holder. You're done! We'll try and have our supplier use a tape with less residue. Until then remember this tech tip.
